Andy Cadena
It is with great sadness that we are sharing the news of Andy Cadena’s passing. Andy passed peacefully from this life in his sleep Saturday night, January 30, 2010. His fight with cancer was brave, but short.
Andy was born to Joaquin and Mary Cadena, the 7th of 10 children. He attended Mt. Vernon Elementary, Sierra Jr. High and East High, where he was active in cross country, track & field, band and boxing, in which he achieved Golden Gloves.
In 1967 he moved to Los Angeles. There he worked at the L.A. Times in Advertising Services for 13 years. In 1980 he moved home to Bakersfield. In 1983 he joined Painters Local #314 (#52) and began his career in painting. Andy worked with the tools for 6 years. He then became an estimator and Project Supt. for Wm. Saleh Co., where he worked until his retirement in Oct. 2009. Andy was always actively involved in his Union, serving as an Executive Board member for most of his 26 years. He was elected to represent his Local at their International Convention.
Andy married the love of his life, Cynthia. They enjoyed their time spent together traveling, whether in Washington, D.C., Alaska or Costa Rica, Pismo or Pacific Grove, and loved to cruise.
He was a valued and respected employee of Wm. B. Saleh Co. for 26 ½ years. His plans of retirement were interrupted by his illness.
We all have fond memories and stories of our times with Andy and those will be kept close to heart as these days and weeks pass.
